    Thick vegetable tanned desk pad, made for an antique desk. The pad is attached to the special plate these kinds of desks usually have and has been fitted as best as possible to match the height of the surrounding desk height.

    Pad is decorated by hand carved framing, featuring the family crest marking on each corner.

  • This photo is of the antique chair with old leather covers still attached to it. The leather seems quite brittle, is torn and missing pieces.This image is made up by two photos set side by side. On the left side there is a drawing of the pattern on the see-through paper. The drawing is partly lifted aside to let the viewer observe the leather under it. The pattern is already traced an the leather has markings of the drawing on it. On the right side there is a photo of me, taken while carving the drawing onto the leather. I use a magnifying glass and a special swivel knife. Some of the traced pattern is already cut onto the leather and is more strongly visible.

    This is a small exhibition of the chair covers we have been working on.

    May be the most curious story is about those antique chair covers, which were originally decorated by pressed images. For a one time and unique item we do not mind to create a hand carved replica. So first we made drawings of the original covers and then transferred them onto new leather to be carved. Extensive work but the outcome is of course worth every second spent on it.

    The other interesting project was the roorkhee chair of course. The wooden parts were provided by the customer to be fitted for the leather covers and other parts. Later on we have crafted occasionally also just strap sets for these kinds of chairs.

    Hand crafted vegetable tanned leather boards.

    Be it chess or something else interesting – all sorts of board-requests are welcome here.

    Board may be crafted in any shape. There are few options for the thickness. If you would like to use the board as a permanent setup, then it would be more interesting to craft it in a similar way as the chess board on these photos. It is made out of two layers of thick leather. The lacing on the edges holds the pieces together but also acts as a decoration.
    If you would like a board that would be easy to pack along, then may be a thinner leather would be more suitable as you might then easily roll it ip. Don’t forget to pair it then with a leather box :)!
